When I think of Oklahoma, one thing that comes to mind is the oil & natural gas. Maybe because it has such a rich history here. Oklahoma reached it’s peak in oil production around 1927 and though business is slowing, to this day, everyone knows at least SOMEONE still involved in the industry.
I mean, we’ve got rigs everywhere.
And I think it’s fascinating. I love to hear stories of opulent times during the oil boom when oil tycoons had pet lions in their backyard or heli-pads on their roof. (Side note: You should totally read Belly Up)
So when I come across anything from this era, I snatch it up. Like I did with this oil and gas pipeline map. Circa 1924, it’s actually two pieces. So I’ve kept it that way and had it framed as a diptych. I envision it looking something like this:
