Are you ready to meet the cutest little before you ever did see? Meet, the smallest kitchen in America. Or as I’m dubbing it, the afterthought kitchen. It’s almost as though the very first home owners were like, “Oh hey. Yeah we need a kitchen too. Let’s cram it in here. Right next to the only downstairs bathroom.” A logistical nightmare, getting to the kitchen, you have to walk all the way around the dining and living room OR across a set of stairs. Not the most feasible. (Don’t even get me started on the feng shui)
And not to mention, isn’t it weird having a bathroom right next to where you are cooking and washing dishes? I mean, don’t get me wrong. It can be done. But in this space, it just seems, strange. Plus, there is a staircase in the corner that is hard to see, the starts right off near a bank of cabinets.
Knocking out a wall to expand, was a no go. The walls are flanked by brick that leads downstairs to the basement. So to do that we are talking major mullah and removing a load bearing wall in a 1920’s house. Not a smart idea.
So the only real solution, in my opinion, is to ax this room completely, and move the kitchen to a new area.
Introducing, (what will be) the new kitchen.
I know it sounds…. crazy… Maybe even a little expensive. But trust me, relocating the kitchen to this space (the current dining room) will be roughly the same cost as remodeling the old one. We are still doing tear out, we are still adding new counters, we are still painting… It’s just all going to be in a different room than before.3ds emulator android apk The only added cost will be additional plumbing, and if I can talk the home owner in to some legit tile I have my eye on. That’s it.
And don’t worry, I know what you are thinking. But where the heck is the dining room going to go? No worries. It will be relocated to a room just off the living room that is currently being used as an office. (Complete with french doors. So cute)
